Bound score copy. No cover. No caption title.
Inner cover (pencil): Messe von Ant. Lotti.
Scoring shown on the first page of the manuscript: First system of five staves: vn. 1; vn. 2; ob.; va. 1 (alto clef); va. 2 (tenor clef): second system of five staves: ‘Choro I’: SSATB: Third system of five staves: ‘Choro 2’: SSATB: Fourth system of three staves: ‘Balchetto’: ATB; b.c.
According to Wolfgang Horn the copyist of the score is ZS O (‘Die wichtigsten Schreiber’, 172).
Although Zelenka-Dokumentation, 57, Nr. 124 (p. 57) attributes Missa Vide Domine to Lotti with a query, Ben Byram-Wigfield advises that this source is defintely by Lotti. ‘Both the Kyrie and Gloria appear in several other sources, independently of each other ... The music is also very idiomatic.’ Among the sources of the Gloria in D are RISM 800273025; 800092466; 000140763.
Ben Byram-Wigfield also notes that ‘a Harvard source of Mus.2159-D-6 (Kyrie in Em, Gloria in D) copied by Christian Schröter, dates from Lotti’s time in Dresden (1717-1719), and has an extra introduction to both the Kyrie and Christe. US-CAh f MS Mus 202. This introduction is also found in an 1810 Berlin source of just the Kyrie in Em (D-Bsb Mus.ms. 13160/4, RISM: 456014777), which is a copy of the Knights of the Cross source, dated 1707.’ The introduction may explain the difference in incipits between some sources.
The vocal incipit for the Kyrie/Gloria given in Zelenka-Dokumentation don’t agree with those of the Catalogo (1765) because it is taken from the soprano part whereas the incipit given in the Catalogo (1765) is from the vn 1 part.
